  Seminars:

"Semiconductor Basics: How chips are made"

Next Seminar:    29th January, 2008

Time:    tbd - 9 AM to 1 PM (lunch included)

Location:    2570 North First Street, San Jose / Silicon Valley, CA

Cost:    $425 per person

Sign-up now: Pay via credit card at PayPal by clicking on this "Buy Now" link and gain access to download the PDF handout of the presentation slides.

Target audience:    Anyone without a technical background who is working in or dealing with the semiconductor or semiconductor capital equipment industry.

This seminar covers topics in a simple way to give attendees a conceptual grasp of the technology. This is accomplished though the use of analogies, examples, animations, video clips to show at a simplistic level how the various key steps in chip making occur. There is no test at the end and you will not be able to design or build your own IC, but you will come away with a conceptual understanding of the process steps and be better prepared to communicate productively with technologists.

The agenda includes:

The Semiconductor Foodchain: A Macro View
Moore's Law Explained
The CMOS Transistor
Starting Materials: Masks, Wafers
    (why are wafers round anyway?)
Photolithography: Imaging design on to silicon
The Chemistry: Deposition, diffusion, etch, implant
Interconnect: Wiring up those millions of transistors
Inspection & Metrology: Keeping control
Testing: How do we know the chips work as planned?
Packaging: How do they get handled and fitted into products?
Growth Markets: The Applications
Reservations are required by Monday January 21st, 2008. To sign-up for the next seminar, send an email to:
